where were they born? where did they grow up?
Nelason Rolihlahla Mandela was born on July 18, 1918. they grow up in the small village of Mvezo in the district of Umtata the Transkei capital in the south Africa.

what position(s)/role(s) did this person occupy during their lifetime?
Mandela was a former president of south Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country first black president.He spent 27 years in prison much of it on Robben island on convictions for crimes that included sabotage committed while he spearheaded the struggle against
apartheid.

Were they a member of any group(s)?
ANC - African National Congress and MK "Spear of the Nation" it was the active military wing of the African National Congress in cooperation with the South African Communist party. MK launched its first attacks against government. He is the leaders of ANC and MK.

what are they most remembered for?
Maybe being the former president of south Africa and he got more than 100 Nobel Awards in 4 decades. It dont really tell..... what are his remembered

His actions were driven by an unshakeable belief in the equality of all people and his determination to overthrow the racist system of apartheid. Mandela helped to organise and to lead many peaceful protest campaigns but after many violent disruptions by the state it became clear to him and his colleagues that the regime would not allow peaceful change.

Mandela encouraged black South Africans to get behind the previously hated Springboks (the South African national rugby team) as South Africa hosted the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
